In today’s world, more and more people are looking away from traditional Western medicine and looking towards Eastern medicine for help with various conditions.  Some practitioners are even combining the two.  Suburban Animal Clinic is now offering Acupuncture for our patients.

Acupuncture is an Ancient Eastern medicine that is over 8000 years old.  Tiny needles inserted in various places stimulate different points along specific pathways to affect hormonal and immune changes within the body.  The needle placement is virtually painless.  Pets may experience a “goosebump” or small vibration sensation upon insertion.  Needles are in place for 10-20 minutes.  Pet owners may stay in the room with their pets, or sometimes the pet is calmer sitting with one of our technicians.

Dr. Beth Stafford recently completed a program on Acupuncture and has already seen positive results from her patients.  Acupuncture can be used in conjunction with traditional Eastern medicine or when drug therapy isn’t working.  Acupuncture is drug-free and has virtually no side effects; however for best results at least three sessions are recommended as effects are cumulative in nature.  Acupuncture can be used to manage behavioral problems, arthritis, chronic renal failure, bowel issues, pain management and even chronic conditions.
